What is SQL Indexing?
SQL index is used to make search faster. You can create an index for a column.
How indexing make search faster?
After creating index on column, you can perform binary search as index is assigned for the each row value in the column.
Without indexing, search will always be linear. Since, binary search is faster than linear search, indexing will make search faster.
Effect of indexing on update: Indexing makes search faster but makes update slower as index also needs to be updated.
Create Index Example: Use following syntax to create index:
CREATE INDEX name_of_index ON name_of_table (name_of_column);
