String is a sequence of characters. In JAVA, there is a special class created to deal with Strings. It is called String Class. It is created under java.lang package.
As with any other class in JAVA, you can create a new instance of String class with "new" operator. String class even provides contructor to create a new instance with default value. For example,
String s = new String("Hello Jwalant");
However it is not a preferred way to create instance of String class.
The preferred way of creating String object is directly assigning value of String to the variable. For example,
String s = "Hello Jwalant";
String class in JAVA provides various methods to manipulate String object.
1. equals(Object object)
2. equalIgnoreCase(Object object)
